What made you decide to buy an existing location instead of starting from scratch?

I was looking to purchase an already existing business. I didn’t want to start any business from the ground up. I was looking for something that was already running and seeing success.

What was the transition like when you took over the business?

The transition was really smooth. The previous owner was very open and willing to help us and having the support of the franchise to educate us and give continued support and tools made it easy.

How has starting with an established customer base helped your business?

Having an established customer base helped our business because we already had so many great testimonials. Having recurring revenue on day one of owning a business is also a greatly great thing to have.

The business was already in a good place and growing, so we just continued with that path.

Revenue on day one, having employees that bring experience we didn’t have.

Talk to other franchisees about how they handle opening season, especially in a seasonal market.

Honestly it was a pretty smooth process from taking over the business. The most challenging was just diving in and learning the business technical side.

We were able to evaluate what was working and not working. We could make small shifts to make big improvements and just having new ideas and energy behind the business helps get momentum going.

Absolutely. I don’t know that I would want to buy a start up. I specifically was searching for an existing business to buy.

What have been the biggest benefits of buying an existing territory?

All the notes above. I could build from what we had. Improving service delivery and identifying gaps in our service were two easy wins for us to improve revenue.

What advice would you give someone thinking about buying a resale location?

Know that you will have to be ready to go EXTREMELY fast. The downside to buying an existing location producing revenue is that you must ramp up quickly and there is no time to sit back. It’s pedal to the medal from day one. You have to keep up, learn and improve.
