Why This Franchise Industry Veteran Bought a Pool Scouts Location in Memphis

Amanda Evans and her husband, Dennis, are the newest additions to the Pool Scouts family, having purchased the location that serves their home community of Memphis, Tennessee. Early in her career, Amanda spent 10 years at ServiceMaster working in the corporate office in various franchisee support roles. Having worked with so many franchisees and business owners in the past, Amanda was already in a franchising mindset when the couple began looking for business opportunities.

Amanda and Dennis had come to know the owners of the local Pool Scouts franchise in Memphis, so they were aware of the brand’s success. The pool cleaning and maintenance franchise with 110 territories nationwide is coming off its best year yet. The brand achieved a 75% increase in year-over-year revenue in 2021 while surpassing franchise sales goals across the country.

Instinctively, Amanda and Dennis were thrilled when they found out that the Pool Scouts owners in Memphis were looking to sell and jumped on the opportunity.

“I grew up in franchising,” said Amanda. “When we started looking for a franchise of our own, we looked at retail opportunities, mosquito spraying — you name it. But I wanted to do something to service people in their homes. There was a huge opportunity in Memphis to really stand out with Pool Scouts.”

In addition to her experience in franchise support, Amanda brings a wealth of marketing experience. She is currently a VP of Marketing for a marketing group, and she intends to keep her marketing job. Since she and her husband purchased an already-existing franchise with turnkey processes and a full team in place, she says there is no need for her to make the move to full-time which was another attractive piece of this deal.

Dennis cannot retire from law enforcement for another four years, so during the franchise evaluation process, Amanda felt it was important to find a business that could provide them each with both passion and success.

“Memphis is lucky to have someone with a background and experience like Amanda’s,” said Pool Scouts President Michael Wagner. “Her experience helping brands build their infrastructure and guiding initiatives is going to make her transition into franchise ownership seamless. We are extremely thrilled to have her and Dennis in the Pool Scouts family, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for Memphis in 2022.”

Amanda explained that because she is a marketing veteran who not only specializes in supporting small businesses, but also has experience in franchisee support, the decision to purchase a Pool Scouts franchise was an easy one. The decision wasn’t entirely for the pair, though. It was just as significant for the future of their seven-year-old son, Walker.

“We’re excited to show him what hard work looks like, and what it’s like taking care of yourself and others.” exclaimed Amanda. “We want him to grow up in this business, and maybe one day, this can be his legacy, too.”
